Teaching MORE to Newcomer Students in Grades 4-12: A Framework for Instruction and Strategies
This webinar is designed to help teachers and administrators support incoming students at the beginning stages of English proficiency with an evidence-based framework for instruction, MORE (Meaning-based, Oral-based, Routine-based, Explicit Instruction), including specific strategies using sample lessons. Participants will: ▪ consider a range of learner profiles and their academic needs, and reflect on their current students ▪ expand their understanding of the components of linguistic knowledge, and the progression of language acquisition; ▪ study the MORE framework and specific strategies for developing oral language, reading comprehension, and written expression to advance learner outcomes. Participants will be provided with Google Slides templates of activities to use in their own classrooms. The webinar will be interactive, with reflection and practice activities, and be interspersed with question and answer opportunities.
